Biography

Patrick Weekes was born in Fremont, CA in 1976. He attended Stanford University, where he recevied a B.A. in English with a Creative Writing Emphasis, and later an M.A. in English with an emphasis in Shakespearian Literature. His current day job finds him at Bioware in Alberta, Canada, working on the upcoming video game Dragon Age. He lives in Edmonton with his wife Karin, his son Garrett, and their many crazy cats.

Kenpo

Patrick has studied a derivative of American Kenpo since 1990. He currently holds a fifth-degree black belt in the art, which he studies at Livermore Kenpo Karate. A mixture of hard and soft movements, Kenpo can often look similar to Karate, Kung Fu, Escrima, or even Jujitsu, depending on what approach the practitioner takes in defending himself.

Writing

Patrick studied Creative Writing at Stanford under professors Gilbert Sorrentino, Pat Murphy, Karen Joy Fowler, and David MacDonald. He went on to attend the Clarion West Writers Workshop in Seattle in the summer of 2000, and has worked as a fiction editor under Ellen Datlow at OMNI. Patrick's publications include:

Patrick has also written interviews for Strange Horizons, movie reviews for the Stanford Daily, and comedy sketches for the Stanford Cardinal Broadcasting Network show The Oval. Currently, Patrick is a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America, and is part of the Bay-Area-based Second Draft writing group.
